About Us
The Sioux Hudson Entertainment Series brings big city performing arts to the remote north at small town prices. Each year, the Series presents at least six pieces of professional live entertainment in Sioux Lookout, often enjoying “bonus performances” as opportunities arise. The volunteer committee strives to provide a balance of drama, music (classical and contemporary) and dance. In 2016, the committee celebrated 35 years of great entertainment and thousands of hours of volunteerism. The past season represented our 40th anniversary as a community organization with its committee of volunteers.
Highlights of years past include The Vinyl Café with Stuart McLean, The Rankin Family, Danny Grossman Dance Company, Penderecki String Quartette, Prairie Oyster, Jeff Healey, Jully Black, the annual visits from the Manitoba Theatre Centre and the biennial performances by the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra. In fact, 2013 marked the 35th anniversary of the first visit of the Thunder Bay Symphony Orchestra to Sioux Lookout in 1978.
The Sioux Hudson Entertainment Series committee is passionate about bringing artists and audiences together. Our multi-generational audience continues to expect and enjoy the broad range of performance artists available to us from across Canada.
The Sioux Hudson Entertainment Series relies on ticket sales, sponsorships from local businesses and individuals, and annual grants from the Ontario Arts Council, Ontario Dances, and Canadian Heritage to cover the cost of presenting artists. The Series enjoys ongoing support from Sioux North High School through the use of their cafetorium as our venue.
